Discussing sexuality with young adults is vital, yet often challenging, and many of us lack the experience or skills to engage in healthy conversations. These discussions play a key role in promoting personal well-being, respect, and dignity. Join us in May and June for a virtual four-part series to help parents, caregivers, and professionals explore strategies for meaningful conversations and discover tools to make this topic easier to approach.

Engaging in conversations about sexuality with our children is essential yet often challenging. Many of us may lack the experience or skills to have healthy discussions. In this workshop, we will explore strategies and tools for answering questions and addressing behaviors.
Join us for an enriching discussion to uncover tools that will make this topic easier to navigate.
June 4, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ET
People with developmental disabilities are often left out of the conversation about sexuality, almost as if they are incapable of having thoughts, feelings, and needs. In reality, they, too, are sexual beings who need information and skills for making healthy decisions about sexuality. One of these skills is the ability to be a sexual self-advocate. As defined by Green Mountain Self-Advocates, sexual self-advocacy includes:
“Speaking up for yourself, sexually.”
“Taking a stand.”
“Saying to whomever – this is my choice.”
“Stating your sexual limits and desires with your partner, respecting others limits and desires.”
During this workshop, parents will learn what sexual self-advocacy is, explore ways you can support your child in becoming a sexual self-advocate, and teach self-advocacy skills to your child.
June 11, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ET
Healthy relationship boundaries are an important skill for us all. We are seeing more and more examples of those who have crossed lines in our culture. Even though people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are sexual beings, just like everyone, they also need the information and skills to navigate these waters and learn what’s okay and not okay in various settings.
This webinar will explore tips and tools for addressing sexuality one-on-one with the individuals you work with. We will explore why this topic can be difficult to approach and useful tools that will help you become more comfortable and confident and communicate about this sensitive topic.
June 18, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ET
People with developmental disabilities want to form positive, healthy relationships, but may not know how to meet others and develop these relationships. When we add the latest technology and social media, we may feel nervous or unsure about how to stay safe ourselves and how to support people with disabilities. This workshop will explore how to navigate the internet and social media in a helpful, safe, and positive way.
