Director, Perkins India
Kristen Layton leads new sustainable initiatives and guides the strategic direction of Perkins India’s work. In 2010, she helped launch Perkins International’s programs in the Middle East and North Africa. Before joining Perkins International, she served as an international consultant specializing in inclusive education and children with disabilities, including visual impairment and deafblindness. She has held positions with Boston College, the University of Maryland, the National Deaf-Blind Project, the New York public school system, the Helen Keller National Center, and Education Development Center, Inc., where she led a team to launch the International Inclusive Schools Network. Layton earned a master’s degree in special education and severe disabilities from Hunter College of the City University of New York and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
