Currently, Deepak Krishna Sharma is working as Program Coordinator at Perkins India to support programs in Uttar Pradesh. He has been in the field of disability rehabilitation since 2005. Sharma is a trained professional in Deafblindness from Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf and Deafblind and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Development. He has a command in guiding parents, professionals, and adults with deafblindness, and is active in building the capacity of parents and adults with deafblindness to understand their role in bringing positive changes in the lives of people with deafblindness. Sharma has been instrumental in supporting the number of local parents groups across India.

As a trained resource professional in deafblindness, Sharma is active with Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SMSA) in taking capacity-building sessions for special education teachers and general school teachers on the various topics of deafblindness and multiple disabilities. In the 16 years of his career, he has worked with organizations such as Sense International India (SII), Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), and National Association for the Blind (NAB) in Lucknow and Delhi. He is also a visiting expert for RCI to carry out inspections of institutions. Sharma’s approach to work is focused on the social and rights-based model and he has contributed to publications on the topics of deafblindness and multiple disabilities.
