Andrea Rutherford

Andrea Rutherford joined Perkins School for the Blind as the Associate Director of College Success and Compass Coach in November 2021. She has since been promoted to Director of Compass. Andrea brings a variety of experiences working in public school systems working in special education, combined with a passion for working with students with vision loss.

Andrea started her career as a substitute teacher, paraprofessional, and braillist while working toward her teaching degree. Andrea has a Master’s degree from Cambridge College in Special Education. She earned a Master’s from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in teaching students with visual loss and orientation and mobility coursework. Andrea also has a degree in School Administration from East Carolina University. Andrea’s approach to her work integrates servant leadership, impacting students, families, and educators in public education for over 19 years.
