The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE) has honored Perkins Products with the 2014 New England Innovation Award, recognizing the company as a transformative leader and producer of innovative, accessible technology.

Perkins Products was the winner in the not-for-profit category, which was included in a field of more than 200 nominations.

"The Innovation Award is a wonderful reminder and acknowledgment of how far Perkins Products has come," said David Morgan, vice president and general manager of Perkins Products. "We manufactured the first Perkins Brailler in 1951. Today we develop new technology that opens the door to literacy for tens of thousands of children and adults who are blind, and also provides tools for parents and teachers."

SBANE has sponsored the New England Innovation Awards since its inception in 1986. Former notable winners include Staples, Ben & Jerry's, Genzyme and iRobot.

"They continue to develop game-changing products that make a massive difference in the lives of people without sight and other related disabilities," said Todd Faber, chairman of the New England Innovation Awards. "Its mission and accomplishments really resonated with the judges."
