Monthly Family Connection Calls

Learn while getting to know other NEC families by joining in on our monthly family connections calls! Calls are held over zoom and will occur from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on the third Wednesday of each month. Each call can be accessed via the zoom link below.

Week 1: Charting the Lifecourse

October 21, 2020

This session will be a discussion about the program “Charting the Lifecourse”, a
framework that was developed to help individuals with disabilities and families
at any age or stage of life think about what they need to know, and identify how
to find or develop supports.


Week 2: Home-Based Routines

November 18, 2020

A discussion about home-based routines and how they can be infused into daily routines and activities such as bathing and meal times.


Week 3: Early Braille Literacy 

December 9, 2020

1:00 to 2:00 PM

Early braille literacy and ways in which parents can encourage literacy for their child with deafblindness.


Week 4: IEP Development

January 20, 2020

1:00 to 2:00 PM

This session will cover important topics related to IEP development.

This session will cover important information for transition aged students.  


Week 6: American Sign Language

This session will cover basic information about American Sign Language and provide information on how to implement the use of American Sign Language with a child with deafblindness.

Ideas and resources for local summer camp as well as at home summer activities for families.


Week 8: Outdoor Activities for Children with Vision and Hearing Loss

How to make outdoor activities accessible for a child with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. 


Week 9: Vacation/Staycation Ideas

NEC Family Bike Day
