Leadership: Since 1829, Perkins has been at the center of innovation and expertise, dedicated to helping prepare students who are blind for the world and the world for these students. Our renowned teacher training and professional development opportunities attract participants from across the U.S. and across the globe.
Extensive campus resources: Day and residential students from around the world enjoy unparalleled learning opportunities and use of technologies on our fully accessible, 38-acre campus in Watertown, MA, only 20 minutes from Boston’s Logan International airport. We have teachers who specialize in English Language Learner for children learning English for the first time.
A customized, measurable education: To prepare each student for the fullest life possible, Perkins’ experts individualize core academics with a full spectrum of expanded core curriculum (ECC) skills. The ECC covers independent living skills, assistive technology, career education, orientation and mobility, self-determination, social development, recreation and leisure interests, sensory efficiency and much more.
Also, our weekend and afterschool programs offer rich opportunities for students to gain valuable social skills and experiences while learning how to travel around the area.

Every student works with a transition team, which includes coaching and monitoring for progress, to help prepare for success after Perkins: at college, pursuing a vocation or in a residential community setting.
11-month program, including stand-alone summer program: Perkins’ trained staff works with students throughout the school year from September through June. Multiple specialists and teaching assistants ensure that each student receives the personalized instruction he or she needs to thrive.
Perkins Summer Program: Perkins also offers three and five-week summer programs focused on the ECC and designed to keep students moving forward with specific skill building after the end of the regular school year.
Special international considerations: Perkins can support your international student and takes special considerations in culture, religion, transportation, and other needs.
Hear from a Perkins International Parent:
"Our son lost his sight when he was 3, has had tutors and also attended private school in Ecuador. After trying a summer program at Perkins School for the Blind, it was clear that Perkins would be the best option for the well-rounded care and education needed to achieve total independence. We are grateful for the staff’s dedication and professionalism.” – Monica Moretta, Ecuador
