If so, join the Perkins School for the Blind and the TEAM (Tech Equity and Access in Math) Initiative for a 3-part webinar series this winter.

Resources for webinar 1: Strategies for Teaching Readiness Skills

The February 11th webinar, led by Dr. Tina Herzberg and Susan Osterhaus, will focus on easy-to-implement strategies for teaching tactile readiness skills to young students. The presentation will include the skills and concepts young students need to develop in order to understand tactile representations of pictures used in math. From information about newly developed products to tips for building spatial understanding, positional concepts and systematic scanning techniques, our goal is to empower educators and families with knowledge, strategies and resources that can be used in the classroom and beyond!

Resources for webinar 2: Teaching Students to Read and Interpret Tactile Graphics Used in Math

The February 25th webinar, led by Sara Larkin and Dr. Tina Herzberg, will focus on strategies and resources for teaching students to read and interpret tactile graphics used in math. The presenters will offer tips to facilitate progression from simple to increasingly complex tactile graphics. Guiding questions that can be used to assist students in putting together how parts of a math graphic relate to each other will be provided. The presenters will also share a variety of assessments and checklists that can be used to guide instruction and document student progress. Come and get excited about new resources for developing efficiency and accuracy in reading and interpreting math-related tactile graphics!
