Updated with link to Out and About in California webinar: https://www.livebinders.com/b/2697416 In many schools O&M specialists struggle to get permission to take their students off-campus where real learning can take place. Hear how California O&Mers have tackled this issue through legislation! Join the Orientation and Mobility Specialist Association on December 5th at 7:00 EST for “Out and About in California: Legislative Advocacy for O&M and ECC Instruction in the School System” Presented by: Dr. Nicholas Casias and Brenda Naimy of Cal State LA; and Jaye Shupin of the California Association of O&M Specialists (CAOMS) Across California, many Local Education Agencies (LEAs) impose significant restrictions on community-based O&M instruction. Many LEAs limit or prevent O&M Specialists from transporting students to community sites. It is also common for LEAs to limit O&M lessons to school hours. This presentation outlines our success in passing legislation to rectify these problems, upholding the right of children with visual impairments to O&M evaluation and instruction throughout the community according to individual need.
