Make A Choice: AAC App Review

Try this simple and inexpensive communication app!

I am a big of fan of downloading quick and easy AAC apps to use with my students with visual impairments who are multi-modal communicators with quite a bit of functional vision.

The app is $2.99 available in the Apple Store and has several features appropriate for students with an optimal amount of functional vision. Make A Choice – AAC Buttons by pkclSoft in the App Store here.

In the photos below check out some of the features this app offers for users:

Within the app, teachers and staff can customize their own AAC boards created for a child’s specific visual impairments.

You can also create communication boards that support specific language concepts like differentiating between Yes/No.

Below is an example of a board I created for one of my secondary students with multiple disabilities who can read familiar sight words.

I really liked that I could customize the color of the button, record my student’s own voice saying the names of each fitness option on a very, simple visual array.

My takeaway

This is a great “go to” general choice making app for a student that doesn’t have a designated AAC device but is ready to explore basic choice making on a mobile device.

Visually it is appropriate for kids quite a bit of functional vision but require a simple, high contrast, customizable color options with voice output options.
