Mainstream Education Reporting on Educational Needs of Students with Visual Impairments

eSchool News article about the impact of accessible digital tools for students with visual impairments.

A small population of students, students with visual impairments have unique needs that are often overlooked. As a teacher of students with visual impairments, I am always excited to see articles in mainstream educational newsletters and/or websites that spotlight these needs and solutions to these needs. Awareness is the first step to ensure that mainstream educational materials are created with accessibility in mind. Recently, I had the opportunity to be interviewed for the article, 3 Digital Developments for Visually Impaired Students, that was published by eSchool News. The article speaks about the impact of accessible education tools on students with visual impairments, teachers of the visually impaired, and educational app developers.

eSchool News covers education technology in all its aspects – from legislation and litigation, to best practices, to lessons learned and new products. First published in March 1998, eSchool News is a monthly print and digital newspaper providing the news and information necessary to help K-20 decision-makers successfully use technology and the internet to transform North America’s schools and colleges and achieve their educational goals. The newspaper is read by more than 300,000 school leaders, and a companion website – eSchool News Online – is visited by more than 500,000 unique visitors each month, including over 280,000 registered members.
