Literature Across Horizons Contest

Writing contest for visually impaired youths ages 14-18.

My name is Oliver Mars Cornelius and I have oculocutaneous albinism and am blind. I am writing this email to invite your youth to participate in an exciting opportunity for visually impaired youth.

I’m a staff member at a nonprofit organization called Literature Across Horizons. Our mission is to provide equal opportunities in creative expression for visually impaired youth. As an inaugural event, we’re hosting a national creative writing contest for visually impaired youth aged 14-18. Key details:

    •    Contest opened: August 14th, 2024
    •    Eligibility: Visually impaired youth ages 14-18
    •    Prizes: Scholarship awards $10,000+ for the top three winners
    •    Full prompt on our website

As a visually impaired writer myself, I know what it’s like to feel excluded or have to go the extra mile to reach the same lengths as sighted people, especially in the literary world, but I think our writing contest really helps bridge that gap.

We would be honored to have your youth participate in Literature Across Horizons’ first literary contest. As a participating organization, all you need to do is help communicate this contest to your students. We will provide supporting material and marketing.

If your organization is interested, please reply to this email with a confirmation.

Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to potentially collaborating to support and empower visually impaired young writers.

Sincerely,
Oliver Mars Cornelius
