It’s a fact that’s been proven many times over—diversity in the workplace matters. But how do you foster a company culture that attracts and supports a diverse workforce, including employees with disabilities such as blindness?

Course objectives

As part of this course, participants will learn how to:

Session 1: Building a diverse recruiting pipeline
Starting with a focus on the recruitment stage, this session addresses the barriers to employment often faced by job seekers with disabilities as they search for employment.

Session 2: Acing the interview
This session covers the most pivotal moment of the process; the interview. Here the discussion turns to disclosure from the perspectives of the interviewer and the interviewee in order to better prepare the interviewer as well as address the potential for biased judgments.

Session 3: Adapting the workplace
From the physical office layout to adaptive technology, this session provides information about creating accessible and inclusive work environments for all employees.

Session 4: Preparing for day one
Session 4 will prepare the manager with regard to what to expect on the first day for a new employee with a disability and for the ongoing role of the manager in supervising their new employee. Participants will learn how to create a workplace culture that supports diversity.

Since its September 2016 launch, over 3,000 people from across the world have participated in the course.

The course is self-paced, meaning all the course material will be available and you can access it at your convenience. You can take the course one lesson at a time or even finish it in an afternoon, as long as you complete the course before the end date. We estimate the course will take three and a half hours to complete in total.
