Hindenburg ABC

Studio Recording & Editing Software for National Library Service Libraries to create audio books in the NLS’s special Digital Talking Book format

Thank you for your interest in the Hindenburg ABC software.

The Perkins Library is a sales portal for the National Library Service (NLS) version of the Hindenburg ABC (HABC) software. Non-profit NLS affiliated libraries receive a discount of 35-40% off of the list price.

We offer this service for libraries and companies that are prohibited from buying from international companies. We charge 10% over the special discounted price for this service.

If your company or organization is not prohibited from purchasing internationally, you can purchase it directly from Chris Mottes, the CEO of Hindenburg. For more information on purchasing it directly, please contact Chris Mottes via email at: [email protected] or visit Hindenburg.com

There are three licensing options for HABC. They are shown below as options 1, 2, and 3.

Option 1: An HABC subscription

You can opt to use HABC by subscribing to it. This is an annual subscription with a 3 year minimum that allows you to use the software on one computer but only for as long as you are a subscriber. The subscription price automatically increases by 3% each year and it includes the use of the HABC software on one computer, as well as unlimited online technical support and unlimited telephone technical support. It also includes unlimited software upgrades during the subscription period.

Subscriptions are automatically renewed unless cancelled 30 days before the annual renewal date. If at some point you choose not to renew your subscription, you will no longer be able to use the software, as in your subscription will expire and HABC will no longer function.

NOTE: Many NLS libraries are prohibited from purchasing option 1 due to governmental regulations and they are required by their governing entities to purchase option 2 (shown below). Please check with your specific governing entity to see which options are permissible before choosing an option.

Option 2: The perpetual license (owning an HABC license)

You can buy the HABC software and you will own it forever. This option allows you to use the software forever on one computer. When you buy an HABC perpetual license, it includes 30 days of unlimited telephone technical support and 30 days unlimited online technical support to get you up and running. After the first 30 days, you still can submit support tickets online and they will be answered, but those with an active support package will receive the priority and their questions will be answered first.

At the time of purchase, you will be given the latest version of the HABC software, but it does not include any future software upgrades. However, as an owner of an HABC license, you will have the option to purchase the annual add-on “Support and Software package” for an additional annual cost. While activated, the add-on package includes any upgrades to the software that are released. The add-on package also includes unlimited online technical support and unlimited telephone technical support. The cost of this add-on package varies and is calculated based on when you purchased the HABC license and on how long you have gone without the add-on package.

For instance when you first buy an HBAC license, the annual add-on package will be less expensive than if you waited and purchased the add-on package at a later time. The longer you wait between when you buy the license and when you buy the add-on package, the more the add-on package will cost. This is also true if you buy the annual add-on package and you let it expire. The longer it remains expired, the more you will have to pay to reactivate it. This is because you will need to pay for all of the upgrades that were released since the date of the purchase of your Hindenburg license or if you have purchased the add-on at some point, since the date your last add-on package expired.

Please note that option 2 may be phased out at some point in the future leaving only options 1 and 3. However as long as many entities governing NLS libraries require option 2, it will remain as an option.

Option 3: Temporary license

This is a temporary subscription that allows you to purchase a subscription for six months or a year. It allows users or associates to install a copy of Hindenburg on a home computer. This option is particularly popular with NLS libraries if they have volunteers that want to use HABC at home. It includes the use of the HABC software on one computer, as well as unlimited online technical support and unlimited telephone technical support. It also includes unlimited software upgrades during the subscription period.
