Healthy Boundaries: Types of Public and Private Relationships

Part three of our Sexuality Series introduces tips and tools for addressing sexuality one-on-one with the individuals you work with. We will explore why this topic can be difficult to approach and useful tools that will help you become more comfortable and confident and communicate about this sensitive topic.

About this Workshop

Healthy relationship boundaries are an important skill for us all. We are seeing more and more examples of those who have crossed lines in our culture. Even though people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are sexual beings, just like everyone, they also need the information and skills to navigate these waters and learn what’s okay and not okay in various settings.

Part three of our Sexuality Series introduces tips and tools for addressing sexuality one-on-one with the individuals you work with. We will explore activities to teach healthy boundaries, including different types of relationships – public versus private – and types of touch and topics in these different relationships.

About the Sexuality series

Discussing sexuality with young adults is vital, yet often challenging, and many of us lack the experience or skills to engage in healthy conversations. These discussions play a key role in promoting personal well-being, respect, and dignity.

The Sexuality Series is a virtual, four-part series of free workshops put on by the Perkins Transition Center, designed for families and professionals to explore strategies for meaningful conversations and discover tools to make the topic of Sexuality easier to approach with young adults with disabilities.
