Dress Up

Practice dressing up in costumes or everyday clothes to encourage body awareness!

This activity has been revised and was originally created by Kathy Heydt and published in the Perkins Activity and Resource Guide (1st edition, Volume 2, 1992).  The second edition is available for purchase.

Playing dress up is a natural activity for young children; it can help to improve body awareness and identification of body parts. Lessons include English Language Arts, Orientation and Mobility, and Independent Living Skills.

Materials

Shirts (with long or short sleeves), pants (long or short), gloves, hats, socks, shoes, bracelets, rings, watches, belts, necklaces, earmuffs, earrings, scarves, face masks, nose warmers, sandals, boots. (Select over-sized shirts and pants so the student can put them on over his regular clothes.)

Procedures

Variations

Put the clothing on a doll.

Hint: Provide the names of the body parts when dressing the student every day.
