Bringing Freedom Indoors

A tech savvy high school student with a vision impairment is leading the way!

Over the past two years, Esteban Wu has worked to implement BlindSquare Beacon Positioning System Technology in Rhode Island. BlindSquare is an application similar to a GPS that allows the blind and visually impaired navigate independently. While perfect for the outdoors, GPS does not function well indoors. Bluetooth beacons are necessary to give users headings and directions when they travel inside. INSIGHT, a rehabilitation center for the visually impaired, is the first building showcasing this necessary technology in the region.

The video below is of Esteban and his two younger brothers demonstrating the INSIGHT BlindSquare beacons.
