This is the second post in a series about Braille Boom Cards. The first post, Braille Boom Cards, included three Braille Boom Decks – World Braille Day Boom Deck, Braille learning Series 1 Boom Deck, and Nemeth Learning Series 1 Boom Deck) created by Jeanette Norman. This post focuses on the Perkins Braille Writer.
Boom Cards are teacher-created digital, self-checking, interactive activities. Unfortunately, these Boom Decks are not fully accessible with a screen reader. Jeanette’s Boom Decks are designed for students with low vision or dual media students who are interested in learning about braille and the Perkins Braille Writer. Classmates and other students with vision can also have fun learning about braille and the Perkins Braille Writer!
The Perkins Brailler Boom Deck provides Perkins Braille Writer history and engages students with the interactive games. On the page below, students drag the numbers 1 – 6, placing them in the correct location on the braille cell. I have moved the number 1 to the correct location as an example.
Other interactive cards in this deck includes labeling the parts of the Perkins Brailler. The last page has a fun activity with YOUR name in Braille!
