Accessibtye is a fully accessible online platform hosting family of educational apps designed to be super simple to use. Many students find assistive technology complex to learn, making educational games challenging to access. Accessibyte has included self-voicing, magnification and visual settings within each app so that students do not have to use external assistive technology.
There are numerous educational apps in the Accessibyte’s lineup; the most known and loved is the highly successful typing programs. Accessibyte’s Typio is the popular typing tutor program geared for younger students who are blind or low vision with engaging Typing Pets. Typio Pro is a typing tutor for teens and adults entering the workforce or continuing their education that includes practical skills such as crafting professional emails, writing resumes and more. Dive deeper into these successful typing programs with this post, Keyboarding Curriculum: Accessibyte’s Typio Pro vs. Typio.
Students use a variety of devices, different web browsers, different types of screen reader and/or magnification software and some students use a preferred braille display. Accessibyte understands that students should learn typing skills and be able to access the Typio family of apps using the same assistive technology that they use every day in the classroom. The Accessibyte apps now work seamlessly with a wide variety of assistive technology!
While Typio games are designed for QWERTY keyboard input, did you know that students can also use other input devices such as virtual keyboards, braille displays, switch controls, morse code keyboards and more?
Typio has always been fully self-voicing; there is also an option to activate Screen Reader mode from the main menu. Learn more about using Typio and Braillio with a screen reader here.
Braillio is a fully guided braille typing tutor that allows braille input using the standard QWERTY keyboard (letters F, D, S and J, K, L) or with the student’s braille display. The Braillio typing tutor begins with uncontracted braille and transitions to contracted braille.
For Typio, Typio Pro and Braillio, Accessibyte has added a Simple Score setting to keep students motivated, improved screen reader and braille device compatibility, and introduced lesson certification in Typio Pro. There are also new professional lessons and performance enhancements across the board. Improved braille hardware support is especially exciting, as more and more students are using Braillio with braille keyboards and notetakers. Learn more about the Typio, Typio Por and Braillio updates here.
Accessibyte has also made some big improvements to the ProPack study apps, like infinitely scalable HD text, unified navigation, always-on captions and new text styles and color themes. Plus, they have expanded browser and device support, added more voice options and enhanced screen reader compatibility. Learn more about the ProPack apps update here.
