Dear colleagues, friends, collaborators, families and schools:
In the challenge and opportunity of transforming schools into spaces of continuous change, capable of helping the education of all children and young people, two fundamental elements stand out.
The first is the leadership that families must exercise to drive this transformation. This leadership can take various forms, depending on each person’s personality and strengths, as well as the needs of the community and the context in which they operate. Moreover, it is not a static role but one that evolves and adapts over time.
The second key element is the interaction between these family leaders and school programs, as well as their impact on the development of the model programs backed by Perkins. Perkins’ Family Coordinators, who are also parents of individuals with disabilities, have built a strong alliance with families and schools committed to genuine collaboration. This partnership has proven to be highly fruitful.
From this it follows that the education of all children and young people, including those with disabilities, is a shared responsibility: Only through joint effort can we achieve truly inclusive and high-quality education.
In this newsletter, you will find inspiring examples of the paths taken by family leaders and their communities in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, along with reflections on the lessons learned through their collaboration with the model programs supported by Perkins.
Warmly,
Gloria
