Perkins India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic includes:

Providing direct support to families for continued intervention.

Over 100 families of children with multiple disabilities are being supported by our educators and community-based rehabilitation (CBR) workers through voice/video calls. Families are guided on at-home activities during remote early intervention, and educational sessions so that learning does not cease while children are isolated at home.

Sharing vital coronavirus related information with families.

Over the course of the pandemic, Perkins India developed and has distributed short video and print tutorials in Hindi on topics aimed at helping families to support their children with multiple disabilities while at home. For example: Demonstrating how to engage children with disabilities in proper handwashing techniques and Maintaining Hygiene and Care for children with Multiple Disabilities including MDVI (Multiple Disabilities and Vision Impairment).

Counseling families on COVID-19 precautions.

CBR workers and Special educators  are reaching out to families of children who have been screened through the Identification and Intervention (IDI) Programs, providing them with basic information about COVID-19, preventative guidelines, and schemes of assistance available from the state government.

Providing dignity kits

Providing dignity kits to 80+ families of children enrolled in Perkins India’s educational programs, equipping them with basic necessities.

Physiotherapy support

Bringing physiotherapy support to 50+ families over the phone to ensure critical progress is not lost while children are in lockdown.
