About Perkins India

Perkins India is the longest-operating, locally facing organization in India dedicated exclusively to children with multiple disabilities and visual impairment (MDVI).

Based in Mumbai, we have trained the country’s leading MDVI experts and senior-level professionals. We are the first local NGO to establish systematic training for teachers of children with MDVI and remain the primary resource for MDVI education in India today.

A Legacy of Impact

Perkins India has over 30 years’ experience working and partnering in India. Through resource and model program development, we support other local NGOs. We help organizations maximize their impact, empowering them to serve children with more than one disability. And we further extend our reach by training teachers and educational leaders positioned to implement changes and instruct other MDVI professionals.

Global Expertise

We are also backed by almost two centuries of global leadership and expertise in the field of blindness education from Perkins School for the Blind — a world-renowned center of excellence for children with disabilities that educated both Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan. With the support of Perkins International, an arm of Perkins School for the Blind that has partnered with more than 250 organizations in more than 65 countries for over 30 years, we collaborate with local, on-the-ground organizations to educate and empower children with disabilities and their families.

Our Partners

Perkins India is grateful to the growing list of partners who make our work successful. Our relationship with many of these partners spans three decades, when Perkins India trained the country’s first experts in MDVI. Today we provide ongoing technical support and mentoring, and leverage their expertise to support the development of additional programs for children with MDVI across the country.
