If you’re an undergraduate or graduate student looking for a way to launch your career, Perkins has opportunities for you. From marketing to IT, occupational therapy to speech-language pathology, departments across campus welcome motivated students who want hands-on experience in their chosen field. Internships are available in the fall and spring semesters, and during the summer.

Please note: Clinical internships in areas such as physical therapy are open only to graduate students; undergraduate students may do short observations. For certain positions, applicants may have to pass a background check.

Samantha Eyley, Florida State University, Lower School intern

“I spent most of my time in Lower School, where I completed both my teacher of the visually impaired (TVI) and orientation and mobility (O&M) internships. I was able to see the individualized instruction that took place in the Secondary Program, Lower School, Outreach Programs and throughout the residential cottages. Across all of these areas I was constantly reminded that student-centered instruction is the key to successful learning. I knew that I had to stay. I now work as an itinerant TVI and O&M instructor for Community Programs, where I am provided with constant support and opportunities to grow. Perkins has changed my life and will forever be the reason why I love my job.”

Victoria Giguere, Fordham University, Marketing Department intern

“Working in an environment like Perkins helped me gain a confidence that will be invaluable in my future career. I was given projects that made a difference. I got hands-on experience developing print ads, designing press kits, editing videos and working to spread Perkins’ messaging and goals. To be successful in the working world requires learning the confidence to speak up about your ideas and ask questions. This was something I became adept at during my time at Perkins because of the amount of responsibility I was given. Perkins’ mission is inspirational and the people I worked with were all driven by a common purpose to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
