Biographical/Historical notes:

Many plays have been written about Helen Keller’s story. Among the best known are The Miracle Worker and Monday After the Miracle.

William Gibson’s The Miracle Worker was first produced on Broadway in 1959 and was released as a movie in 1962. The play tells the story of Helen Keller’s childhood education, guided by Anne Sullivan. A made-for-television version of the play was aired in 1979 and 2000. In addition to these well-known performances, there have been many others at smaller theatres around the world.

Monday After the Miracle, also by Gibson was released in 1982 as a follow up of Keller’s story. While not as popular or well-known as The Miracle Worker, there have been many productions including one at the Eugene O’Neill Theater in New York City.
