Abstract:

Judith Bevans was a Music Therapist and teacher at the Lower School at the Perkins School for the Blind from 1963-1994. The collection consists of music sheets in many formats including Braille, embossed plastic, embossed metal, and embossed paper. The collection includes experimental materials that were also used in Perkins music classes. Many of the items are oversized. The collection also includes. An Approach to Instruction in Braille Music Notation Utilizing Principles of Meinolf Neuhauser’s “Magic Notation” and Carl Orff’s “Schulwerk” written by Bevans.

Biographical/Historical notes:

Judith E. Bevans worked at Perkins School for the Blind form 1963-1994 in the Music Department at the Lower School. She received a B. S. in Music from the University of Rochester, a Master’s in Education from Harvard University, and a Master of Music in Performance of Early Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. Bevans was a certified Music Therapist from the Certification Board for Music Therapists. She worked in the Peace Corps in Iran from 1970-1972.
