Targeting Expanded Core Curriculum skills
The program targets several ECC skills with particular focus on the following:
Teenagers and young adults with visual impairment, ages 14 – 22, are invited to join us for an opportunity to explore kitchen safety, equipment adaptations, grocery stores and recipes, and to learn how to move more confidently in your home kitchen.
The art of cooking is increasingly being lost as young people find themselves with less time, and more options to “eat on the go”. However, there are several tricks that blind and visually impaired young adults can use in the kitchen.
“Getting kids involved in the kitchen can help change behaviors early and empower children to develop good life-long eating habits. Kids who learn how to cook tend to eat more nutritious foods and they’re learning a skill that is very important.”
