#6 in the CVI for the TVI series

This tutorial features Chris Bennett, Post – Doctoral Fellow, Visual Neuroplasticity Lab, Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School.  He will be discussing how virtual reality tools can aid assessments in individuals with CVI.

Image of Chris BennettIndividuals with cortical/cerebral visual impairment (CVI) may often perform better in a traditional clinical environment but show a high level of sensitivity to real-world scenarios of high dynamic visual complexity. Proper assessment of functional vision is important to an individual’s wellbeing and studying visual search may lead to new approaches.

Recent technological advancements such as virtual reality (VR) can provide opportunities to improve upon traditional vision assessments, by providing objective, ecologically valid, and engaging measurements of performance.

This talk highlights two virtual reality simulations that make use of eye tracking technology for an enhanced behavioral approach to functional vision assessment. Furthermore, these simulations can be combined with neuroimaging techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) to better explain behavioral observations.
