Access to learning and the environment must begin with supporting sensory regulation by addressing the foundational sensory needs (interoceptive, proprioceptive, and vestibular). Only then can the next level of sensory processing engage (auditory, tactile, visual, etc.). Occupational Therapy intervention that considers the student’s CVI, their unique visual needs, and multisensory approaches to learning is key to providing that access.

Participants will earn 1.5 continuing education credits by completing an online assessment based on a presentation by Nikoletta Livingston, an Occupational Therapist in the Perkins Secondary Program.

Learning Objectives:

By observing 4 case studies of students with CVI, participants will
Define the role of the OT on the CVI team
Outline the process of specific skill development
List skills in context & OT intervention
Describe the OT evaluation process and Development of OT-related IEP goals for students with CVI
