CVI Now hosted a live virtual event on CVI and Adapted Physical Education (APE), held on May 11, 2021. Megan O’Connell-Copp, coordinator for the Physical Education department at Perkins, and Maebh Barry, Adapted Physical Education teacher in the Deafblind program at Perkins, discussed:

Participants will earn 1.5 continuing education credits by completing an online assessment based on the presentation.

physical literacy and adapted physical education (APE) including legal requirements for any child with an IEPhow instruction, equipment, activities and sports can be modified to meaningfully include students with CVI how to identify the “goal” or primary focus of an activity for a student with CVI during adapted physical education
assessment in APE and how it may be tailored to an individual with CVI

Megan O’Connell-Copp is the coordinator for the Physical Education Department at Perkins. Since 2000, she has been teaching adapted physical education and coordinating sports camps throughout the country for kids who are blind and visually impaired.

Maebh Barry is an Adapted Physical Education teacher in the Deafblind program at Perkins providing adapted physical education to students aged 3 to 22 years who are Deafblind, Deaf or have multiple disabilities.
