A groundbreaking new tool to confront CVI

The Perkins CVI Protocol is a pivotal tool in our mission to confront the leading cause of childhood blindness.

Tim is crucial in diagnosing the leading cause of childhood blindness and low vision, Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). While there’s no cure, a diagnosis and early intervention can unlock learning for kids like Izzy. That’s why The Perkins CVI ProtocolSM was created.

Developed by The CVI Center at Perkins, The Perkins CVI ProtocolSM is a free, downloadable, customizable, science-based protocol that enables teachers and parents to intervene as early as possible, changing the trajectory of a child’s learning journey.

Before arriving at Perkins or receiving her CVI diagnosis, it was unclear whether or not Izzy would be able to own certain tasks independently, like writing by hand. Paired with the expertise of her specialized team at Perkins, Izzy’s diagnosis made it possible for her to learn that writing on a slanted surface works best for her.

With more control of her posture and strength in her hand, Izzy’s mom says, “She can write her first and last name, which makes me very proud.”
