Perkins students perform with The Revels
Perkins' Dwight Hall was filled with song the evening of May 22 as Revels and members of the Perkins' Student Chorus performed the annual "Celebration of Spring" concert.
Revels, Inc., is a nonprofit performance art company composed of actors, musicians, and artists representing traditions of many cultures through their musical performances. For the eighth year in a row, members of the Perkins Student Chorus joined Revels performers for their spring concert celebrating the summer solstice.
"It's a real collaboration between our students and their company," says Perkins Music Director Arnie Harris. "The students absolutely love it!"
This year's performance honored a wide array of traditions. In a Chinese folk song called "Mo Li Hua (Jasmine)", students joined Revels in praising the beauty and fragance of the jasmine flower. John, a secondary student, gave a stirring vocal performance with the Spanish song, "Caballo Viejo (Old Horse)," and was accompanied by talented classmate, Andy, on the accordion.
In the closing number, an Irish/Scottish song called "Wild Mountain Thyme," Perkins' students and Revels held hands in a half-circle around the audience as their voices soared in perfect harmony.
The joyful performance was truly a delightful and fun way to welcome spring. We hope you will join us for next year's concert!
The event was supported by a gift in memory of Sheldon Rothstein.
