Cottage Aide
Description: Volunteers assist with activities planned by staff members who work in each of the Lower School and Secondary cottages. Cottage activities may consist of playing a table game with a small group of students, reading various materials to a student or assisting an individual with writing a letter.
Program: On Campus Programs
Time Commitment: Two or three hours per week
More Information: The Perkins campus has 15 residences on 38 acres that house about 225 students. Each cottage offers varying levels of independent living; students are placed in particular cottages based on a thorough examination of their needs. Staff members plan and organize activities that engage cottage residents, most of which take place after regular school hours (between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.) or on the weekends. The majority of activities take place in the cottage, but some involve off-campus trips throughout the community. Cottage staff members provide training and information describing the various students and their programs.
