Classroom Aide 

Description: Volunteers act as classroom aides in the Secondary Program by assisting the teacher in helping students attain the goals outlined in the program. Volunteers receive supervision and training from the classroom teacher.

Program: Secondary

Time Commitment: One morning or afternoon per week for a period of six months.

More Information: Academic life at Perkins School for the Blind is structured to meet a student's individual educational and developmental needs. Students are evaluated and placed in classes that focus on their level of ability, ranging in structure from providing academically challenging coursework to assisting students with independent living skills.

Classes are led by certified instructors who specialize in working with students who are blind, deafblind or with multiple disabilities. Teachers are responsible for developing individual programs for each student based on his/her abilities and needs.  The school day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Classes range in length from 45 to 90 minutes.
