Adapted Aquatics Assistant

Description: Volunteers assist in helping Preschool, Lower School, and Secondary students achieve the goals outlined in their individual adapted aquatics plans. The adapted aquatics instructor will introduce volunteers to methods and techniques for water safety. Volunteers are provided information about the policies and regulations that govern the pool.

Program: On Campus Programs

Time Commitment: Two hours per week

More Information: Adapted aquatics classes at Perkins School for the Blind are an integral part of a student's curriculum. Each student participates in regularly scheduled classes at the School's indoor swimming pool. The classes are kept to a maximum of six students and run from one to one-and-a-half hours. A certified adapted aquatics instructor plans and implements individual programs for each student. Students are also encouraged to participate in evening and weekend recreational swim times. (A lifeguard is always on duty during the recreational swim.)

As swimming is adapted to the individual levels and skills of each student, information about their abilities is provided for the volunteer. Volunteers should be prepared to go into the pool.
