We Are Who We Are
I am sure this is a topic that I have already talked about. I would have to read the entire blog to find out and it is probably easier to just say it again.
Every time someone finds an article about a new, possible, cure for blindness I find it in my email from at least four different people. I know that people mean well and that deep in their hearts they think I spend endless hours wishing I were sighted. Honestly, I spend more time worrying about what earrings to wear than I do about becoming sighted. I probably spend too much time worrying about what earrings to wear but that is who I am.
I do care about cures and treatment for the future generations. I am also sure that there are many people who just lost their vision or who face losing their vision who carefully watch every medical journal for the article that will allow them to see. Just for the record, I would do absolutely nothing to change my lack of vision if in any way it put my health in danger. In fact, if I were told I could just wake up tomorrow and be sighted, I am not sure I would do it.
Do you think tall people or short people spend hours every day wishing they were shorter or taller? Do people with straight hair wish they had curls? Well that one might be true.
We are who we are. We all should make every effort to keep growing and improving our understanding of who we are and where we fit in the world. We should be thinking about what we are doing to make the world a better place. We need to think about how to improve the lives of our family and what to make for dinner. We don’t need to spend time thinking about being tall or short or fat or thin or blind or sighted. Let’s just get on with life and the important things that really matter.
