A message from Gayle Yarnall, Director, Perkins Products:
Welcome to the lighter side of Perkins Products. This part of our website is also known as "hints for real life". We will cover real life and how blind people cope with the situations that occur about fifty times a day. I do not claim that all the ideas you find here will be mine. I will take them from any place I find them. Be careful what you say to me because it may show up here. Some of these were submitted by other blind people. If you read this you will know who you are. Thanks for your help.
(Gayle Yarnall is herself blind and uses in her daily life many of the very same products sold by Perkins Products. Click on the entries below to read Gayle's latest thoughts.)
I was feeling like it had been a particularly hard week. It was Friday afternoon and the weekend was close at hand but maybe not quite close enough to feel completely there. My cell phone rang and I began a conversation with a person who was about to totally change my attitude and maybe even my life.
A few months ago, I decided that I needed to get on Facebook. I really found signing up to be very confusing.
Recently I have had people ask me questions about organizing food in their cabinet or freezer.
Across the street from our house there is a truly beautiful oak tree. Although it is not on our property, we get to enjoy the shade. Along with the much appreciated shade there is a big problem.
Recently, I was slapped in the face with a huge YOU KNOW YOU ARE OLD moment. My oldest son is going to his 25th high school reunion.
Countless people, including me, have written about what to say when you meet a blind person. Here are some things not to say when you meet a blind person.
Here I am again talking about books. I am sure, by now, you have all guessed I care about this subject just a little. I want to talk more about the ability to download NLS BARD books on to blank cartridges.
I have posted several blogs that have to do with reading and I am about to do it again. Please be tolerant of my love of reading.
A while ago I promised to write more about our visit to Crete. Somehow the time got away from me. Here is more about visiting a wonderful paradise.
A few weeks ago, my husband and I traveled to Greece. My next few blog entries will expound on the wonders of Greece and Crete.
