I Hate Acorns

Across the street from our house there is a truly beautiful oak tree. Although it is not on our property, we get to enjoy the shade. Along with the much appreciated shade there is a big problem.

Acorns are falling everywhere. They fall on the driveway and this year they seem especially large. Their hard, round shape make me feel like I am walking on roller blades without the blades. I can go skidding across the driveway struggling to keep my balance while my arms are full of recycling.

Sometimes I open my front door and it sounds like the house is being attacked by gunfire. But no, it is only acorns.

The trunk of our car looks like a steel drum, guess what, acorns.

They have one last revenge in the spring when little baby oak trees show up in all my planting containers.

Just how many acorns does one oak tree need to keep the world supplied with oak trees?

At our cottage in Maine we have an old barn. I am not sure if there are any oak trees around but if there are: I will be finding them in every box in my barn. If the squirrels had a memory and could remember where they hide there winter food, they would need a lot fewer of the nasty little things.

I have heard of people making flour out of them and baking bread with the flour. If this is true, please come and harvest every little round acorn from my front yard.
