Meet the Team: Steve Shandro
Steve completed more than 30 marathons before he decided to run one for a "worthwhile cause." So two years ago, he signed up for the Perkins Marathon team. "Prior to 2011, I ran solely for personal reasons," he says. "Adding Perkins to the running equation became a great way to bring greater visibility of Perkins to my family, friends and neighbors.” Now he’s back and ready to face another arduous challenge for Perkins. "Boston is always my toughest race due to winter training conditions," he says.
Steve works as an IT manager for Carlson Wagonlit Travel near Denver, Colorado, and has been a runner since childhood. Originally a track and field sprinter, he began competing in marathons in 2000 at age 40.
Perkins is pleased to be part of the John Hancock Non-Profit Program for the 117th Boston Marathon® on April 15, 2013. Each runner is raising money to support Perkins and its mission to provide education and services that build productive, meaningful lives for children and adults around the world who are blind, deafblind or visually impaired, including those with additional disabilities.
