Remote Training FAQ
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The cost is $80 per hour with a half hour minimum. Once you have paid the first 40 dollars, you will be charged in 15 minute increments. We will need a credit card number when you schedule your training.
Q: What credit cards do you accept?
A: We accept all major credit cards.
Q: How much time does it usually take?
A: That depends on what your goals are. Our approach is goal-oriented where we discuss what you want to achieve prior to any training. We try to be as accurate as possible and monitor progress during the course of the training.
There are things you can do to minimize the training time:
- Do your best to make sure your computer is optimized and in good working order and that you have current operating system upgrades - we cannot be responsible for maintenance problems.
- It helps us to know what adaptive software you are using so we can schedule you with the right trainer.
- Have a phone near your computer.
- You will need high speed internet, dial up will not work.
- Have something handy for taking notes.
- Have easy access to any software you might need.
We will provide a checklist of things that you need to have within reach.
Q: What adaptive access applications can you train on?
A: We can train on most adaptive access software including: JAWS, ZoomText, Window Eyes, Magic, Duxbury, System Access, Dragon Naturally Speaking, JSay, Magnitalk, Kurzweil 1000 and Kurzweil 3000, OpenBook, Guide, Voice Over and more.
Q: What uses and applications can you train on?
A: We can usually train on any application you can use with your adaptive software. Some popular examples are: The NLS BARD website, Bookshare, Windows applications for versions of Windows XP to current, Apple applications that work with Voice Over, LinkedIn, Facebook, and more.
Q: Can you fix my computer?
A: We have years of experience troubleshooting computers with adaptive software. We recommend that you have a short conversation with our trainer to see if the specific problem can be identified upfront. If you decide to have us look at your system, we will try to diagnose the problem and recommend solutions. The minimum charge to diagnose your system is $40.
Q: Can you help me install software?
A: If you want us to help you install your access software, you will need a sighted person to be there to read the screen until your software is working. If you want us to help you install updates or application software such as virus protection software, we can certainly help with that. Make sure you have the software discs by the computer when you start your session.
Q: What do I need to have for the training?
A: You should have a phone next to your computer or be prepared to use SKYPE. You will need high speed internet. In some cases you might need a web cam but your trainer will let you know that prior to beginning your session.
