The college admissions process may seem daunting, especially if you or your child is visually impaired, but the right preparation can help you navigate it with confidence. This hour-long workshop led by Perkins Director of Admissions and Evaluations Carol Kinlan is the first in a series of College-themed events sponsored by College Success@Perkins, a nine-month program that prepares students with visual impairments for college.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • The six essential components of the college admissions process – from grades and test scores to on-campus interviews
  • Tools for evaluating colleges and their support services, including a checklist of things to look for and questions to ask when visiting schools and talking with disability offices
  • How to leverage teacher recommendations and the college essay
  • Seven key accommodations that students with visual impairment need to succeed in college

Carol Kinlan, Director of Admissions and Evaluations

Headshot of Carol KinlanCarol has a comprehensive background in college placement and years of experience preparing students with disabilities for post-secondary education. Prior to joining Perkins, she worked for McMillan Education as an educational consultant where she focused on college placement for students with disabilities and learning and emotional disorders. She has spoken widely on the challenges of the college admissions process, especially for students with special needs. Carol holds a master’s degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education and an M.B.A. from Boston University’s Graduate School of Management.
