Perkins Strategic Plan 2005-2010

In 2006, Perkins staff began a self-study school improvement initiative as part of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Accreditation process. Perkins' initiative, SEE Quality (School Excellence Everywhere) has provided staff, parents, and students with "self-study" opportunity to give their input on how the school can improve and be more responsive to various constituencies.

With help from many members of the Perkins community, the Preparation Phase of the NEASC Accreditation Self-Study Process was completed in September 2007. Surveys of students, parents, and staff were conducted over the past several months, and many people took the time to share their opinions about our school. Participation rates were:

  • Student Survey = 25%
  • Parent Survey = 48%
  • Staff Survey = 60%

In addition, 11 reflection groups met for several hours each to discuss how well Perkins meets 3 major NEASC standards. 120 staff participated in these reflection groups and made recommendations for school improvement.

Four self-study sub-committees (Mission, Programs & Services, Resources, and Process) are using the data gathered from the surveys, the reflection groups, and other sources, to draft a report documenting the school's compliance with all 16 NEASC standards. The self-study report will be presented to Perkins staff in October for review and comments. We will then develop an Action Plan to follow up on the recommendations included in the report.

Our self-study report, including the Action Plan, will be sent to NEASC early next year. The 12 member NEASC Visiting Committee will conduct their on-site review of the self-study from April 6-9, 2008. The Visiting Committee will make recommendations and advise NEASC regarding Perkins accreditation status.

Founded in 1885, NEASC which accredits 2,000 public and independent schools and colleges in New England is the nation's oldest regional accrediting association. Its mission is the establishment and maintenance of high standards for all levels of education, from pre-K to the doctoral level. Accreditation of an institution by NEASC indicates that it meets or exceeds NEASC standards and criteria.
