Supervisor

Chris Underwood began his career at Perkins in 1979 as a houseparent in the Lower School Program. He has been the supervisor of Diagnostic Evaluations / Admissions since 1985. His responsibilities include coordinating the admissions process at the school as well as supervising the evaluations of children who are blind and deafblind. He works closely with the Director of Programs and Services and the Program Supervisors and staff from the four on-campus educational programs. He has worked extensively with families and school districts from most states in the U.S. and many regions around the world.

Chris is the chair of the School's Program Review Team, a cross-departmental team of professionals who develop and promote positive behavior supports at the School.

Chris earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maine. In addition to his direct experience in the field, he has acquired specialized knowledge through coursework and workshops in childcare, vision, early language development, and behavior management. He has developed workshops and in-service training in the areas of student evaluations, admissions, behavior management policy, and positive behavior supports.
