Thank You Massachusetts Voters
On November 2nd Massachusetts voters took a stand for progress and independence by defeating Question 3, a proposal to roll back the state sales tax which would have meant $2.5 billion in lost revenue.
Perkins School for the Blind wants to thank voters for listening to our appeals and helping protect funding for the services we provide to 45,000 Massachusetts residents including babies, students, teachers, alumni and library patrons of all ages.
The need for services has never been greater. Every week three babies in Massachusetts are born blind or visually impaired. The sooner we can connect these infants with services, the faster possibilities can grow for them and for their families.
Each year in Massachusetts Perkins provides early intervention services to 600 babies who are blind or visually impaired; we 300 children in public schools who are blind, visually impaired or deafblind to access the specialized services they need in order to reach their full potential; and our Braille & Talking Book Library provides free services to 27,000 patrons who cannot read traditional print.
Thank you for protecting the everyday services that make an extraordinary difference in the lives of so many.
