Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library Needs Your Help

Perkins Library Director Kim Charlson stands between shelves of books on tape
The Perkins Library offers 80,000 titles of books on tape, 16,000 braille books and hundreds of audio described movies.

The Governor’s proposed fiscal 2010 budget slashes funding to the Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library by 17 percent – almost $350,000. If the current budget is approved, the BTBL will face devastating service cutbacks.

  • Thousands of Massachusetts consumers who are unable to read traditional print because of a visual or physical disability could lose their only resource for books, magazines, daily newspapers, and other reading materials.

  • Existing library patrons would see a slower response time.

  • And fewer braille and audio books would be produced, further limiting the options for our neediest citizens.
