Welcoming Educators from Around the World

Group photo of the Educational Leadership Program Class of 2012

Each year, teachers from around the world come to live on Perkins campus as part of the Educational Leadership Program (ELP). Selected educators receive a full scholarship to participate in a nine month intensive advanced level program combining classroom study at Perkins and Boston College with practical training in a Perkins classroom. Graduates return home to serve as recognized experts in multiple disability education and train other teachers in cutting edge best practices.

The program’s Coordinator, Cafer Barkus, himself a Perkins School for the Blind alumnus, recognizes that the ELP offers an educational and cultural two-way street.

“We are proud to be able to offer opportunities  for professional enrichment to so many fine educators the world over,” he says, “but truly, our students and staff learn even more from our ELP participants. They show us the world when they come to Watertown.”

We are proud to introduce this year's Educational Leadership Program participants. Meet the ELP Class of 2012 and read their bios below.
