Perkins International and the Kilimanjaro Blind Trust

In East Africa, Perkins International partners with the Kilimanjaro Blind Trust to provide instruction in braille literacy and distribute Perkins Braillers® to schools and agencies for the blind. The Kilimanjaro Blind Trust was launched by a group of friends who climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in September 2005. Led by Erik Weihenmayer, the renowned mountain climber who is blind, five blind climbers reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, setting a new record.

This unique partnership reaches thousands of children in East Africa by:

Perkins International and the Kilimanjaro Blind Trust are working to ensure that every child who is blind in East Africa has access to the standard for brailling excellence – the Perkins Brailler.
