Announcing the African Union of the Blind General Assembly
From Jace Nair, President – Africa Union of the Blind
The Board and Management of the African Union of the Blind (AFUB) have the pleasure to co-host the 6th Africa Forum. Consequently, the Board wishes to notify our entire membership, partners and stakeholders that the AFUB shall hold its General Assembly on Wednesday, 7 October, 2015, as part of the Africa Forum program.
The agenda of the General Assembly shall be in line with the Constitution of the Union. In addition to the Assembly, Regional Assemblies shall take place in the late evening of Tuesday, 6 October. An AFUB Women Forum shall be convened on Monday, 5 October, while the AFUB Board shall hold two meetings – the first on Saturday, 3 October, and another on the evening of Thursday, 8 October.
AFUB is the continental umbrella organisation of national associations of and for blind and partially sighted people in Africa, with a current membership of 53 member states. We enjoy observer status with the African Union and the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, and hold semi-consulate status with the Kenyan Government.
As the 6th Africa Forum focuses on the United Nations’ new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we invite our entire membership, partners and stakeholders to join us in delivering the agenda for persons who are blind and partially sighted in Africa through our vision of a continent where blind and partially sighted people enjoy equal rights, social inclusion and full participation in development.
More information and updates regarding the General Assembly, the Women Forum and the Board meetings shall be communicated in due course. However, we urge national members to begin the process of nominating delegates to the Assembly and seeking resources for their participation. We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the Forum.
