Africa Forum

The Institutional Development Program, in collaboration with its partners, is pleased to announce the 6th Africa Forum to be held at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda, from Oct. 4-8, 2015.

The 6th Africa Forum will focus on the post-Millennium Development Goals debate and the new development agenda for the millions of people who are blind or partially sighted on the continent.

Africa Forum participants will enjoy an engaging multi-day program featuring lectures, seminars and a number of exciting networking opportunities. Additionally, participating organizations will be provided with a variety of sponsorship opportunities.

The Forum provides a platform for government officials, policy-makers, bilateral development agencies, universities, researchers, educational and training institutions, services providers, manufacturers and dealers, organisations of and for blind people, parents and people who are blind or partially sighted to exchange information, share resources and strengthen the voice for an inclusive post-2015 development agenda. Over 400 participants from Africa and beyond are expected at the Forum.

The 6th Africa Forum is proud to host the 2nd TechShare Africa Exhibition – the groundbreaking technology exhibit linking Africa’s blindness community with manufacturers and dealers of cutting-edge technology solutions. The Africa Forum is also proud to host the African Union of the Blind (AFUB), which will hold an Extraordinary General Assembly.

This will be the first Africa Forum since 2011. The 6th Africa Forum promises to be the largest-ever gathering of Africa’s blindness community. Don’t miss this unparalleled opportunity to learn, collaborate and weigh in on the future of people with visual impairments in Africa.

On behalf of the Local Host Committee and our local host organisation – the Uganda National Association of the Blind – I take this opportunity to welcome you to Uganda and to the 6th Africa Forum.

Uganda hosted the 2nd Africa Forum in 1999. Fifteen years later, we have the pleasure to host the Forum for the second time!

Uganda is a country in East Africa with a warm equatorial climate. With a population of 35 million, the country is endowed with a rich and diverse culture, landscape, flora and fauna. Visitors to Uganda have the opportunity to visit any of the ten national parks where they can see the famous endangered mountain gorillas, tree-climbing lions or some of the most rare bird species in the world.

A variety of mountain ranges offer visitors memorable opportunities for hiking and mountain climbing. They may also choose to take a boat ride on Lake Victoria to the source of the Nile River!

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we look forward to making the 6th Africa Forum the most memorable Forum experience of all time. Our teams are working around the clock to ensure that all logistics are in place as we prepare to receive you.

The Venue

Speke Resort Munyonyo is a five-star complex set on 90 acres of land on the shores of Lake Victoria. The neighboring Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort is an expansion facility of the Speke Resort constructed to host the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

A range of Africa Forum sponsorship opportunities is available to ensure a unique experience for sponsors and participants.
