Developing and Translating Materials
As a well-established resource institution, Perkins provides consultation services globally. We work with partners to develop programs, materials and literature specifically for their communities, including content development and translation services.
Perkins has assisted in the development of education and training resources in 20 languages. For instance, our Spanish library includes more than 300 articles and 40 books.
Perkins has also developed selected literature in: Bahasa, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Estonian, French, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Mandarin, Nepalese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Tamil, Thai, and Turkish.
Since 1987, we have produced numerous of publications and textbooks that professionals in the field use every day. Noteworthy publications include the Perkins Activity and Resource Guide and Remarkable Conversations, a definitive manual on teaching communication to children who are deafblind.
Another leading resource for literature on deafblindness is DB-Link, a project between Hilton/Perkins and Teaching Research of Western Oregon University. DB-Link is a clearinghouse of information for parents and professionals, including an on-line bibliographic database for users to browse, fact sheets on deafblindness, and the ability for users to send inquires and receive references for appropriate literature.
