Boston Celtics Partner with Perkins
In the world of sports, there are a handful of teams whose names bring to mind the word "dynasty." Boston Celtics is certainly one of them. Perkins School for the Blind is proud and honored to have been chosen as a community partner by the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Boston Celtics.
Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett says of his partnership with guards Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, "We're three unselfish guys who want to win and when you have those philosophies - the sky's the limit."
That idea mirrors the combined efforts of The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation and Perkins School for the Blind. The mission of the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation is to extend the reach of the Celtics championship legacy into the community by providing funding and a true partnership with community based organizations like Perkins. Perkins and the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation share a joint commitment to literacy for all, fulfillment of educational goals, the fostering of volunteerism and the celebration of diversity.
Perkins Night at the Boston Celtics
February 5, 2009 was "Perkins Night" at the Celtics home game against the LA Lakers at the TD BankNorth Garden. During the evening, The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation presented Perkins School for the Blind with a gift of $50,000 and honored Perkins alum,Yegue Badigue, as a "Hero Among Us." This distinction honors individuals who have made an overwhelming impact on the lives of others. At last year's Perkins Night, Perkins alumna, Jaimi Lard, who is a school spokesperson who is deafblind, was honored as a "Hero Among Us."
